Threaded Ball Valves Pressure

1. Common Pressure Ratings for Threaded Ball Valves

  • PN16 / 200 WOG (≈1.6 MPa)
→ For domestic water supply, HVAC, and light-duty applications.

  • PN25 / 400 WOG (≈2.5 MPa)
→ Suitable for slightly higher-pressure water, oil, or gas pipelines.

  • PN40 / 600 WOG (≈4.0 MPa)
→ Widely used in industrial medium-pressure systems.

  • PN63 / 1000 WOG (≈6.3 MPa) and above
→ Designed for high-pressure service, such as hydraulic lines, compressed gas, or special process fluids.

(WOG = Water, Oil, Gas, indicating applicability for these media at the rated pressure.)

2. Selection Principles

  1. Valve rating > Maximum system pressure × 1.25–1.5
→ Always keep a safety margin.

  2. Consider temperature
→ At higher temperatures, material strength decreases; choose a higher class if necessary.

  3. Check medium corrosiveness
→ For corrosive fluids, use stainless steel ball valves and consider higher ratings.

  4. Account for connection strength
→ Threaded ends have limited strength. For continuous high-pressure duty, flanged or welded ball valves are safer choices.

3. Application Examples

  • Domestic water line → PN16 is sufficient

  • Compressed air (0.8 MPa) → PN25 or above

  • Hydraulic system (3–4 MPa) → PN40 or higher recommended

  • Chemical high-pressure line (>5 MPa) → PN63 or higher, preferably flanged/welded type
