Globe Valve Characteristics

Globe Valve (also known as a stop valve or cut-off valve) is a type of valve used to regulate the flow of fluids in a pipeline. It has several key characteristics:

  1. Linear Motion: Globe valves use a linear motion to throttle, stop, or start fluid flow. The valve disc moves perpendicular to the flow, which provides excellent throttling capabilities.

  2. Tight Sealing: Due to its design, the globe valve offers better sealing than other types of valves, making it ideal for applications where tight shutoff is required.

  3. Flow Control: The valve's structure allows for precise control over fluid flow. It is widely used for regulating flow rates and pressure.

  4. Pressure Drop: Because of the internal flow path (which changes direction), globe valves cause a relatively high pressure drop compared to other valves like gate valves.

  5. Durability: Globe valves are durable and can handle high-pressure and high-temperature applications, making them suitable for a wide range of industrial settings.

  6. Manual and Automated Options: They can be operated manually via a handwheel or automatically using actuators for remote or automatic control.

  7. Versatility: They are available in various materials and designs, including straight, angle, and Y-pattern configurations, allowing use in different applications, including those involving corrosive or high-temperature fluids.

These characteristics make globe valves ideal for applications where flow control and throttling are necessary.
